Stories from One Song Grove: A WHAT Is Stuck in Our BBQ?!

Shares from Our Wild Ride Building a Health + Wellness Ministry in Eastern TN, for Dogs, Cats + Humans; a Sanctum on Land We Lovingly Named One Song Grove

This is a share from the wild ride we’re on (my husband, Mark, and I) out here in Eastern TN, building, creating, and sometimes wondering what exactly we’re doing. There are days when we feel more than crazy, days when we’re feeling inspired, we spend a lot of time forging and flowing, and every day, we’re getting shown time and time again how to be and live in the moment. We’re unsure how this is going to work, but each step is through the fire and into trust through faith.

Building this Sacred Soul Health Ministry, our Forge and Flow Sanctum, becoming anchors with this land, One Song Grove. As we carry this BIG vision, living every day IS the mission, for there is no separation from who we are and this Mission, for we are fully melded in every way; it’s all a little bizarre, but we carry it with intention, truth, courage, and a lot of “what the actual F…” moments, too!

Below is one of those moments. A WEIRD moment indeed! 😂

We’re learning a lot, and the land itself is remembering through this relationship with her, and we’re learning right alongside. Stumbling, remembering, listening… Sometimes we experience things we never thought would ever be a thing, and those are the stories to share. They’re the kind of stories that bring you closer to laughter and wonder, and some are meant to be shared in the grief, the wild ride, stepping into the moments that matter and living there just a little longer each time. And, when one of those comes up, those are the moments to share.

These are the sort of moments we will remember forever. The kind that are told when we’re sitting by a fire, with all of the like-hearted souls walking this Path with us, remembering how Harmonic Living feels, and we turn and say, “Remember that time when….?!”

Those are the moments that have always been cherished as we sit by the fires through the cycles that go by, but the cycle we’re in now is one that is uplifting beyond uplifting. Harmonic ways return through our very bodies, and those of us who are the storytellers can share the sort of stories that walk their way through people’s hearts, connecting us to the love, the bizarre, the hard, and all of the HUMAN things that truly connect us to each other. That’s the “Awakening Magick” path, the “Forge and Flow” path, remembering the truth of what PURE connection to ALL things feels like in our bodies, our breath, and our hearts.

So, the story begins at around 4:30 am the other night in May 2026. The night woke our home to strange sounds coming from our BBQ…

Chicky, our pup, wakes up around 4:30 am and needs to go outside. Surely he heard the sounds, for this is not usually a time he gets up.

I am DEEP in dreamland as I do. My husband, Mark, wakes up in a fog. He goes outside to let Chicky out, and strange sounds are coming from the BBQ. We have the big griddle kind that is quite heavy, and how anything got inside that is still something we can’t quite get…

He grabs a flashlight and a large umbrella (yes, the umbrella is for self-defense; this seemed to make sense in the moment, for it is quite a large umbrella), and he trepidatiously goes outside. He approaches the BBQ, wondering, "Is it a raccoon?” What could be INSIDE our BBQ? He flicks the flashlight inside the BBQ, in the burner area, and comes into the bedroom and says, “Babe, um… can you come here? I need help!”

I am in a fog, jumping out of deep dreamland way too fast and now unsure where I am… It’s the many years of being a furbaby mama, as I jump up, saying, “WHAT HAPPENED?! Where’s Chicky…”

He brings me over to the BBQ, and we peer in the side, and sure enough, there are little eyeballs looking back at us. We look a little closer, I wipe away the fog as best I can, and we see it’s an adorable little possum! He is completely stuck; his mouth seems to be stuck, too. So, Mark grabs gloves for each of us, and we are ready to try to remove this huge griddle, which is NOT easy. I am half asleep, still wondering if perhaps this is a weird dream that interrupted my dreamtime lessons for the night, unsure of what’s really going on. We’re fully intent on getting this huge griddle top off, heavy as it is, without hurting the little guy. I am losing my grip because one side is stuck, and I am worried I will hurt him if I drop it. We switch sides, and then we FINALLY get it off.

Who knows how long we were fiddling with this huge griddle top? It could have been 5 minutes, but to me it felt like a REALLY long time. We get it off, and there he is. A little white possum somehow worked his way UP into our BBQ, into the area where the burners are, and he was completely stuck. His little mouth was even stuck in the open position in a little open area on the side, and there was a little blood because he was flailing to get out and probably hit his little mouth a little too hard. Looking at him more closely, he was overall fine. We calmed him down, and I grabbed him, unhooked his mouth from that little opening, and then gingerly put him down on the soil. He waddled away very slowly, shaking off this very WEIRD experience. Poor little guy! He was definitely as confused as we were, if not more, as to what had actually just happened.

A white possum perched on a brown tree branch, looking toward the camera.

Not an actual photo of our possum stuck in our BBQ, but just a reminder of how ADORABLE these little guys are!

We didn’t get a picture or anything from the whole event because the little white-ish possum was terrified (and we weren't thinking straight anyway, being in sleep fog and all). We aren’t even sure how long he was in there, but he was stuck, alright.

So, this is one of those stories. A story we will remember forever. “Remember the time when there was a possum stuck in our BBQ…” is how it will start. And because the little possum walked away, confused but OK, we can laugh and wonder, How in the *%$#!” did that happen?!

I hope that little possum left knowing how loved he is, and that we’re very sorry our big ole mean BBQ trapped him like that! We will forevermore now look INTO our BBQ before we turn it on… that’s just going to be a “new thing” we do. 😂
