Move With Purpose: A Breath First Practice

Pillar 2 of Forge and Flow Sanctum

By Mark and Natalie Viglione

Movement is not something we throw at the body to punish it. It's the practice of honoring the body through breath, the first movement the soul and spirit take when they come into form, and it's the foundational core beneath everything at Forge and Flow.

NOTE: A video version of this is below, if you prefer to watch it.

Three Pillars, One Foundational Core

Forge and Flow Sanctum is built upon three foundational pillars: nourish with purpose, move with purpose, and work with purpose. These are not meant to be individual things, but woven together to create harmonic restoration within us. When we nourish ourselves, when we move, and when we work with real purpose, that's when everything underneath us really comes out and really shines.

Underneath all those layers of stress and daily life that's buried our true splendor within us. That is the heart of everything we do here at Forge and Flow. This is about the second pillar, move with purpose, and why slow, intentional movement through things like Qigong, Tai Chi, and breathwork is the path back to a regulated nervous system, and to a body that feels good again, that feels like yours again.

Who We Are

We're Mark and Natalie, and we created the Forge and Flow Sanctum. It's a non-profit health ministry, a sacred place where you are free from intrusion, because that's what a sanctum means. We're building it on land called One Song Grove. It is a place to rediscover balance in this very unbalanced world, from within your own self, through alignment with the natural world's rhythm.

Unbecoming

It's not about becoming something new. It's not about becoming something more than you already are. Rather, it's about unbecoming that which was never you in the first place. It is a place to nourish yourself, to move your body with grace and ease in non-stressful movement, to invigorate through purposeful living, and to laugh, because this is about coming together in joy.

Move to Honor, Not Punish

In Forge and Flow, we move not to punish the body, but to honor it, through ancient movement practices such as Qigong and Tai Chi, and through breathwork that calms the mind and calms the nervous system. What the nervous system is really craving is to slow down.

This world is so fast-paced: go, go, go, do, do, do. We need to calm the pace down and reduce the stress level within us, and that's how these motions, these movements, these forms, and these breathing practices work. These ancient practices are more than just calming the nervous system. They stimulate nerve flow. They create strength. They increase balance. They increase bone density, strengthening the bones from the inside out. They calm the mind, help with sleep, and help build more clarity. The list goes on, and it's for any age, accessible for any mobility level.

I work with seniors who are wheelchair-bound in their mid to upper nineties, and they can do these practices. It's not about no pain, no gain. It's about no pain, huge gain.

Breath: The First Movement

This is something about movement that many people don't speak on: breath is the foundational movement within the body. It is the first breath that the soul and spirit take when we come into form. So you can imagine, when breathwork works with movement, you're rewiring stress patterns, you're slowing your respirations down, you're stabilizing your nervous system. And then we also integrate sacred sound practices, because that is very vital too, to move the breath through sound, which are the foundations of existence: breath and sound.

Come Back Home

We invite you to explore our Forge and Flow Sanctum. It is a path back to come back home to your body, to remember what home feels like, and to create vitality in that home, which again, is our bodies. If this resonates with you, we'd love for you to join us.

There's More To This Pillar

This video walks you into the layers of MOVEMENT that is the second core spiral to everything we do here in our ministry, the insights we offer, the things we explore... BREATH TO BODY and even INTO THE STILLNESS BENEATH THE MOVEMENT (the SPIRIT and our form).

This is pillar 2 of 3, one of the three foundational pillars of the Forge and Flow Sanctum. Move with purpose builds on nourish with purpose and leads into work with purpose, the final pillar still ahead. Together these three build what we call harmonic restoration.
